I'm living my dream everyday.

A mother's love is so great and divine.
Is it ever possible to repay our mother's love?
Hiiii guys!
Today, I am inspired to write an entry dedicated to my mom and share with y'all some of our fun dates during the summer break.
Y'know, my mother is different from other mothers out there. She's nothing like the career-minded woman, the materialistic tai-tai or the ultra-domesticated housewife. She has never worked a day in her life after giving birth to my sister. Some may think that she's lucky, but one of the reasons why she doesn't work is because her health hasn't been too good all along. Well, God has blessed my family in many ways and my Dad has done a good job as the sole breadwinner in our family over the past twenty odd years. I am very proud of him :)
Although I always complain to my friends that "my mom hardly cooks because she's so lazy", I will never forget to mention that my mom is capable of whipping up a hearty feast when she actually does cook. So yes, my mom is nothing like her untalented daughter in the kitchen. Well, I'm actually gonna prepare dinner with Ness tonight! Hope it'll be a success. See, I'm learning!
(The food photographs in this entry were snapped by my phone! Awesome possum iPhone camera :D)
I miss one of my favourite home cooked dishes already. It's a simple dish that satisfies.

I was adamant to teach my mom how to appreciate the Japanese cuisine. My sister brought her to Sushi Tei previously but she didn't enjoy the meal. Well, never say never!
I brought her to Sushi Tei on Valentine's Day and ordered some of my favourite dishes. Guess what? She enjoyed the meal tremendously! The satisfied look on her face really made my day. She enjoyed the meal so much that she applied for their VIP card on the spot. Yeah, now you know from whom I inherited my kiasu-auntie genes from.
I've mentioned it before...Their beef wrapped around mushroom side dish is a must-order item! I know of so many people who love this dish. The other must-order item if you're dining here with a bigger company: King Phoenix Roll!
My mom is always on a mission to fatten me up. We shared three kinds of dessert! Coffee bonbons, black sesame icecream and my favourite fish-shaped wafer icecream. I will never get sick of the Japanese wafer ice cream :] My mom likes the red bean flavour while J's mom likes the chocolate flavour. As for me, I enjoy both flavours! Both our moms love the curry udon dish, which is definitely a safe bet cos it's virtually impossible to go wrong with Japanese curry. Moms know best!
On a totally random note, my mom knows how much I enjoy taking photographs of food. She'll remind me to snap when I forget to! Heh, she's cool like that.
A few days before I left, my mom brought me to Victoria Peak for lunch. Located on the 11th floor of Orchard Central, you'll have to take an elevator up!

As its name suggest, they specialise in Cantonese cuisine (DIM SUM!) and their head chef hails from Hong Kong.
I really liked their appetizer (fried beancurd with pork belly and long beans) so my mom ordered an extra portion, which was free of charge. Wowsieee. I can't emphasise enough on how awesome their service is. Every staff that attended to us was so patient, caring and helpful! The top-notch service that we received clearly enhanced our dining experience.
My mom is a fan of their siew mai! One of their popular dim sum dishes is the steamed buns with chicken, scallop, mushroom and salted egg. Loved it! The prawn fillings in the CCF were huge too.
I wouldn't order a beef steak at a Chinese restaurant but my mom is a fan of their beef ribs. Their deep fried mango prawns and century egg porridge tasted rather average. The latter wasn't salty enough...But then again, I eat too much salty food for my own good.
Their yam paste was to-die-for and the other dessert which we had (mango sago with black glutinous rice and mango ice cream) was just as good! :)

After our heavy lunch, my mom decided to give me a light workout. See, my eccentric mom loves to collect photos of flowers and paste them into albums after albums. How cute right? Not so cute when I have to be her photographer :p It was troublesome squatting down and bending over to snap a shot of a flower after walking every few steps! Haha, she was so pleased when she showed me the photos -which I snapped- that she had pasted in her album.
Anyone who loves flower photography should visit the 11th and 12th floor of Orchard Central. You don't have to dine at any of the restaurants to gain access to the outdoor balcony area. It's a good place to camwhore with your girlfriends in the day and a romantic spot to enjoy the breeze with your partner in the night.

I just made myself feel a lot more homesick. I miss all the delicious and affordable food back home! More importantly, I miss my mom! Love her to bits and I can't wait to bring her to dine at all my favourite food haunts in SG after I start working. In the meantime, I must enjoy my student life to the fullest.
Have a good weekend guys! Missing everyone back home dearly...
P.S. My housemate Ness, is proving to be a real gem. I'm glad to have found a friend in her :)
