I'm living my dream everyday.
Turning 21 (Part I) | Thursday, May 5, 2011 @ 1:11 PM

Hi dearies,

We are currently into the fifth day of May 2011 and I know that this Thank You entry is long overdue. Well, it's better late than never :) More than anything else, I wanna take this opportunity to thank each and everyone of you who set aside time to celebrate this milestone with me.

I will attempt to recall and relate how the events unfolded on 23 Dec 2010.
Please watch out for my personal thank you mention to YOU, YOU and YOU!
So in a random order, here goes...

First and foremost, I wanna thank J for booking the suite for me and putting up with my indecisiveness in the run-up to my birthday. It was very unfortunate that he returned from his field trip to Brunei - the night before my birthday- with a bad case of body rashes and a horrid burn on the back of his neck. Plagued with fatigue, pain and itchiness, he tried to be his usual happy-go-lucky self. His efforts certainly didn't go unnoticed. To keep it short and sweet, thank you for planning this party together with a few of my girlfriends and smiling through your pain and discomfort, J!

After checking in to the hotel, we enjoyed a lovely high tea buffet spread at The Club, which is located on the highest floor of the hotel and overlooks the infinity pool. We enjoyed a free flow of savoury treats, scones and sweet desserts. The crab crepes were the icing on the cake and to top it off, we received good service from attentive staff :)

Secondly, I wanna thank my two beloved sisters from Style!

I was running late for a salon appointment, which was a gift from Mat, whom I only knew for a month since the start of my internship. She was my self-appointed fashion advisor and even accompanied me to the city to shop for my birthday dress after working hours. She snapped photos of me after I tried on every dress and whatsapped the images to Leef, who in turn offered her valuable opinions, how cute! It was nice receiving advice from these two fashion gurus. I eventually decided on a bling dress in nude shade from Miss Selfridge. Sadly, the dress didn't fit me as nicely on my birthday as it did when I first tried it on in the changing room because I shed a few kilos prior to my birthday. Every girl wants to look her best on her birthday, no? :D The dress was supposed to hug my body nicely but it didn't. This has highlighted to me the importance of having a wedding gown fitting session closer to my wedding day. Yes, yet another of my far-fetched thought...

I channeled my inner Katy Perry (Love her penchant for all things colourful and glamourous) in this dress. Here's me with a big crystal gem on my fingers (I got carried away with the decorations. I actually lugged many of my mom's display ornaments from home to the hotel!).

Mat booked an appointment at the salon she frequents, Kizuki+Lim, which is located within the premises of Raffles Hotel. The salon's interior design takes on a minimalist approach. The hairstylist who attended to me was a Japanese, and so were a few of his other colleagues. We attempted to converse in Japanese and it was fun! I had the best shampooing experience in my life at this salon from the gentlest pair of hands, I kid you not. In addition, I was offered a cuppa tea and a white Ferraro rocher chocolate, which made me feel a tad special :) I conclude that the hairstylists here are really meticulous.

Leef designed and printed a birthday banner for me as a gift. I remember how I proudly showed it off to my colleagues after the banner was delivered to my workplace. Everyone went wowsieeee :p On the banner, she included my favourite prints: heart, butterfly, flower, and bird. I felt so bad for burning a hole in her pocket but at the same time, I knew that I was lucky to have found a friend for keeps!

To sidetrack a little, a friend who is willing to spend money on you without expecting anything in return is definitely a gem. No one likes a friend who is over-calculative or a freeloader because money complicates relationships :]

Red nails for my 21st.
Red is such a classic shade for nails and it will always be my favourite choice.
I treated myself to a manicure and pedicure session for my birthday.
I haven't had such long nails in ages. Since my return to Melbourne, I realised that my nails often chip. Have they gone brittle on me?

Stay tuned for Part II and may I reiterate, remember to look out for your name!!! :)
