I'm living my dream everyday.
TURNING TWENTY TWO (I) | Sunday, December 25, 2011 @ 12:28 AM

Life may not be the party that you've expected, but while you're here, you might as well dance :D

First and foremost, thank you to everyone who has made me feel so loved and special on my birthday! Be it through a heartfelt text message or a sincere birthday greeting on my FB wall/Twitter/email...Heaps of love to everyone who remembered and cared! :)

I realised that for the blog entry on my 21st birthday, I labelled it TURNING 21 PART (I) or something along that line...Well, Part II didn't happen! :p So we'll see if I have enough willpower to blog about part II/III this time round!

I'm officially 22 years old! However, I still feel like a young, free-spirited youth!
I'm definitely enjoying every bit of this phase of my post-grad life. What is there not to love about spending lotsa quality time with your loved ones? I'm really happy to be home, and I'm really blessed to have my family, J, my second family, best friends, and old friends in my life. Every reunion has been nothing short of sweet and perfect and for those whom I have yet to meet, I really can't wait to catch up with you guys!

---

Just before midnight, J came over to my place and surprised me with a birthday cake! It was a cake that I've wanted to savour for the longest time...Brownie points to J for remembering ;)

IT'S NOT YOUR USUAL BIRTHDAY CAKE.
NOTHING FANCY SCHMANCY...BUT IT SURE TASTED SO GOOD.
Introducing to everyone my favourite cake from my childhood days: PANDAN LAYER CAKE :)

---

It was raining cats and dogs on my birthday :(
In the morning, I treated myself to a pampering manicure session...Thereafter, my patience was worn thin by the dreadful rain. It was almost impossible to flag down a cab/book a cab over the phone. J was already waiting at the restaurant when I was trying to get a cab in my neighbourhood. It was so terrible...Thank God that I made it to the restaurant in the nick of time. Well, minutes just before the time of the last order...

Grumpy boyfriend

TWR staff offered us bread throughout our meal...Do try their onion bread :)

J chose STILLED water over ICED water and had to bear the hefty $10 price tag :/
Consider it a lesson learnt for him. Pity I wasn't with him when the waiter took his order lest I'd have prevented him from making this silly mistake. For those of you who have yet to drink FIJI water and you're wondering how it taste like, it sure tasted good, clean and smooth but really, there is no need for such unnecessary extravagance.

Before I realised that we'd be charged for it, I actually mentioned to J, "Wow, they serve Fiji water here!" We were halfway through our meal when I realised that the other patrons in the restaurant were not being served Fiji water. Almost immediately, a wave of sian-ness washed over me, hahaha.

We opted for the three-course set lunches ($48++/pax)...

I had initially wanted to order their mushroom soup but somebody gave me his look of disbelief because he was eyeing this tuna side dish (as pictured below). It's no secret that J takes his food too seriously. He's a food dictator! Can't mess with him when it comes to food.

Tuna Carpaccio Provençal
capsicum, black olive, quail egg, shallot, mesclun, lemon dressing

Chicken and Duck Liver Parfait
port wine jelly, toasted brioche soldiers
(THIS WAS REALLY GOOD)

I lost my appetite after snapping this photo.
Hehe, just kidding :)

Pity we didn't get a booth seat...Honestly, I was a little disappointed that the staff at TWR didn't go out of their way to make our dining experience a truly memorable one, especially when we were celebrating my birthday. J shared in his email reservation that it was my 22nd birthday...but someone obviously overlooked that when he/she took note of the reservation but not the celebratory occasion.

My mood was dampened when the girl that was seated next to our table had a complimentary dessert (I presume) and two staff (rather pathetic in scale as compared to Morton's) singing to her a birthday song. I wasn't throwing a princess fit...I just couldn't mask my disappointment when I whined to J about it. AH WELL. If you wanna celebrate your friend's/partner's birthday at The White Rabbit, be sure to reiterate the occasion clearly over the phone when you make a booking. Don't bother to mention it in an email booking.

Braised Oxtails
pomme purée, roasted root vegetables
(J ENJOYED THIS DISH! I ENJOYED THE MASHED POTATO!!! Oh wait, I enjoyed the pomme purée...Right. Haha, I feel somewhat sarcastic after letting that bit of disgruntlement off my chest.)

Poached Seabass
champagne mushroom broth, baby vegetables
(ITS AWESOME POSSUM QUALITY MADE UP FOR ITS PATHETIC PORTION)

My sister helped me with my eye makeup for my birthday! Thanks jieeeeee :)
It was my second time putting on fake eyelashes this year. Granted, it does "open up" one's eyes...but I'd rather not be too dependent on them. That is not to say that I dislike wearing fake eyelashes. They do work their magic on my eyes but it's too much of a chore to include them in my daily makeup routine. Also, I think it's unlikely to lose its appeal when worn only on special occasions ;)

Observing how he enjoyed his food filled my heart with immense joy...
If I know what love is, it's because of you :)

What I would give to be seated in a comfy booth on my birthday...
(YET AGAIN, I CAN'T GET OVER MY DISAPPOINTMENT...)

Love you to infinity and beyond, sillypoot!

Sticky toffee pudding
I have never tried a sticky date/toffee pudding that didn't sit well with my taste buds!

Pumpkin creme brulee
I'm not a fan of creme brulee because it doesn't taste as flavourful as a rich mud cake or sour lemon tart!

After lunch, we watched Sherlock Holmes. J was disappointed that I didn't enjoy the movie as much as he did. Hahaha...I simply told him, "I prefer HK investigative shows". To which, he rolled his eyes...

I know that you guys must be wondering what J gave me for my birthday! He gave me the gift of love and time :D Currently, I have yet to decide on what I would like to receive from him. Nothing seems to catch my eyes these days because I've lost an interest in shopping (NEO, YOU HAVE TO BELIEVE ME :p). Furthermore, I feel guilty because J received a $50 parking fine when he surprised me at my house on my birthday. Seriously, what were the odds that the parking attendant would be loitering around my estate at 12.08am?! How unlucky :(

Anyway, I received a gorgeous pair of gemstone earrings from his mom. I wasn't expecting anything because I've always been treated by his folks with too much kindness and generosity. To cut the long story short, his mom is such a sweetheart! <3

All in all, it was a great birthday celebration with J!

Merry Christmas guys!!!
Have a lot of fun and laughter with the precious life, family, friends and wonderful opportunities that God has given to you :)

LOVE, SERENE
