I'm living my dream everyday.

I love to read Mitch Albom's books because he is such a gifted and inspirational writer.
He has an innate ability to make you pause and reflect -on the people and meanings in life
that you've overlooked- and tug at your heartstrings with simple and long-forgotten truths.
"The culture we have does not make people feel good about themselves.
And you have to be strong enough to say if the culture doesn't work, don't buy it."
The quote above rings true to me. It is one of my favourite quotes and serves as a reminder
to always remain grounded and strong-willed wherever I am.

But how many times have we succumbed to temptations just to fit in? How many times
have we doubted, altered or went against our personal values and beliefs to please others?
have we doubted, altered or went against our personal values and beliefs to please others?
It's like we get so caught up in living our lives that we don't even know who we are living
our lives for.
our lives for.
This brings me to another quote from Morrie on family.
"If you don't have the support and love and caring and concern that you get from a family,
you don't have much at all. Love is so supremely important."
you don't have much at all. Love is so supremely important."
I cringe whenever my mom shares with me stories about filial piety, or rather the lack of it
among her circle of friends. I feel so disgusted that people could actually turn their backs on
their parents - the ones who brought them up with their own means- or leave them out in the
lurch without feeling any sense of remorse.

It always boils down to the same reason: selfishness. I guess the saddest truth would be the fact
that many of these black sheep are kids from our generation. Isn't it bleak and ironic that even
as our society is progressing quickly, we are falling behind in so many ways in our roles as
a child or a sibling?

I have an extended view on Family. My family includes the people whom I share no blood ties
with, yet love me unconditionally and want the best for me.

You know how lousy it is when an old friend walks out of your life? Imagine the pain that an
elderly mother has to deal with when her child walks out of her life. Imagine the daily flashbacks
of bringing her child up, preparing meals for him or her, and shelling out her savings for tuition fees.
Only to raise an ingrate. The thought of ungrateful children that exist in my generation really angers me.

You would have guessed that I woke up feeling pensive this morning.
Let's stop chasing the wrong things in life and start living for the right reasons.
