Burning Questions | Wednesday, November 9, 2011 @ 8:35 PM

Hi guys!
I'm really bored and sleepy but before I hit the sack tonight, I'd like to share with you some interesting answers that I've found to two burning questions that might/might not have crossed your mind previously.Yes, boredom drove me to google the questions below. Hehe, I've included my personal comments in red.
Why do many Asian women like to take photos of their food?
- It's a cultural thing. Food is a big deal for Asians. (Seriously, cultural thing? That's a sweeping statement. Food is indeed a big deal for us, but isn't food a big deal for many of our Western counterparts too? Where did the Michelin guide originate from? Anyway, food itself is a culture. I don't think it's fair to assume that it's just us Asian women who enjoy taking photos of food.)
- Usually its just food that has out of ordinary food presentation, whether it be good or something cute. (Yeah babyyyy! You blow your hard-earned dough on a quality meal, so shouldn't you have photos for keepsake?)
- I feel like people that post pictures of food are trying to tease us that we currently aren't eating. (I must admit that I do that at times, especially since I'm living overseas and I know that some of my friends whom have visited Melbourne do miss the food they savoured here. Likewise, I've been tagged in photos of meals that my loved ones enjoy back home...So what now? Are we gonna be judged for our friendly teases?)
- To upload on Facebook (You upload a photo of food that gets me drooling and I comment to find out where it's from. You're happy sharing, I'm happy with my new discovery. Win-win situation.)
- Asian girls do it because they got nothing else going on for them. (I feel compelled to stand up for us because I don't think it's reasonable to brush us off as people who lead uninteresting lives because of our food photography habits. Likewise, at least we are not trying hard to impress. If you have something against people who are constantly posing with booze while wearing inebriated facial expressions or those who enjoy snapping cleavage-baring shots...then maybe I can fathom.)
Personally, I love food photography for a myriad of reasons. If there is anyone who should be complaining, they should be the partner of women like us. Thank goodness Chewy's patience hasn't worn thin yet :)
I don't mean to start a racism thread here, but I found this comment -in response to the question above- interesting:
Why do white girls take so many pictures with alcohol drinks?
Hmm, this is again another generalisation made. Not all of my "white" female friends do this (as observed on FB), and I actually noticed many Asian girls posing for photos with their alcohol drinks too. That said, I do remember posing for photos with my cocktail or shots on a few occasions. Frankly speaking, I don't think it's wrong to take pictures with alcohol drinks. I'm not a frequent drinker, so every drinking session is akin to me getting a step closer to achieving nirvana. Thus, I have to remember the process to achieving this milestone. Just kidding. Sheesh, is it wrong for people to capture happy memories when they're under the influence of alcohol? It doesn't make them any lesser of a human being right?
Why do girls take photos of their feet?
- Girls take pictures of every ****ing thing...Have you guys ever seen the ones where they all stand in a circle really close and take a pic of their feet? (Somebody needs to mind their language because it's me and a lot of other girls that he/she is talking about!)
- Because since the advent of digital cameras, every chick who manages to take a photo of any stupid thing at a weird angle thinks they're being artistic and creative. (Haha, the notion of creativity actually crossed someone's mind...There you go, a colourful picture of feet in different footwear does come across as cute or arty-farty, doesn't it?
- Note the toenail polish, definitely doing it to show off their pretty feet. (If you have it, flaunt it...You don't expect me to wait till my toes are all wrinkled like a prune before I start snapping photos of them right? Besides, pedicures don't come cheap and they aren't a necessity for most of us. They are a privilege. So, why can't we show off our pretty pedicure?)
Fingers crossed for a productive day no.2 with Elibird tomorrow!
Have a great Thursday! :)
Love, Serene
